the female nude figure, lying in the studio.
The challenge in this painting was
to overcome the problem of foreshortening,
especially the outstretched leg, coming
straight to the viewer.

The nude in art has a long history, dating back to Renaissance times. Personally, I find the nude form in contemporary art exciting as often I find it the main focus of artistic creativity. In this painting I'm attempting to move away from portraying the nude in a literal way. I'm more interested in using unnatural colour to depict shapes.
